The Top Chrome Extension for News Enthusiasts: An In-depth Look at Spaywall

Among the best Chrome extensions available for download from the Chrome extension store, Spaywall is emerging as a favored tool for online news readers. With an impressive aggregate rating of 3.78 out of 5, this extension demonstrates its efficiency in breaking down barriers for news tracking . So, what makes Spaywall stand out? Let's explore its key features and delve into user reviews that explain this Chrome extension's high rating.

What is Spaywall?

Spaywall is a unique Chrome extension that enables users to legally bypass paywalls on numerous news articles. Instead of breaking through the paywalls, Spaywall simply redirects users to an archived version of the page available on the Internet Archives project (archive.org). This approach ensures users can access information while respecting the rights of the original news source.

Unique Features of Spaywall

Spaywall stands out for its user-friendly interface and comprehensive functionality. While the extension doesn't bypass paywalls directly, it offers a smart alternative by pointing users to already available archived versions. This feature makes Spaywall a favorite among online news aggregator enthusiasts, and a top news aggregator tool on the Chrome extension download list.

Spaywall User Reviews

User reviews on Spaywall offer valuable insights into its effectiveness. A review from Tugboat Peavy celebrates its simplicity, stating it's "much easier than copypasta into the internet archive." Similarly, Dante Powell found it "worked like a charm," while Cindy Bahl considers it a breakthrough, exclaiming, "Finally found an extension that works! Love it!"

Reviews also provide constructive feedback; J J mentions limitations with current articles from the Wall Street Journal, and Rolls Yoshi seeks guidance on its optimal usage. These reviews contribute to its current rating and provide room for improvement.

A Must-Have Chrome Extension

Given its innovative approach to accessing information, Spaywall is highly recommended for anyone looking for a reliable news aggregator in the Chrome extension store. It's a favored tool for online news reading, making it one of the best Chrome extensions available for news enthusiasts.

As Spaywall continues to evolve, it's clear that this Chrome extension is more than just an online news aggregator; it's a tool that delivers comprehensive news access while respecting the value of quality journalism. i have installed this extension for a long time, still remember the old version worked very well. now it builds a giant paywall on its own. nice strategy man, thanks for your service and bye bye forever

it just replaces the newspapers paywalls with a paywall of it's own

This did work, and when it couldn't access the full article it provided the option to read it as text only via a google archive scrape. Since the update, this option has now gone behind a paywall (confirmed as I have a seperate work account that uses this). Whilst I understand the need to be compensated for the work put into this extension (and yes it's a great extension) and ongoing costs. The average punter when trying it out for the 1st time will likely move on to find something else. At most, may I recommend having an option to limit access to one google cached article only per day/month? This would then validate how great this extension to new people discovering this is, and may then encourage people to then pay to unlock ongoing.

this works amazing for me! for a while i was like clearing cookies or hitting stop but those tricks stopped working. then i was searching wayback machine myslef but it usually had the paywall still and i had to keep hitting next next next or previous previous previous to try to find it without the paywall. so tedious. then i read about this site and ended up upgrading to get the extra archives and so glad i did, it def works better. i mean free is better lol but for what i get this is a great deal imo.

Update makes it completely worthless. It can't even search Google cache anymore like it used to. Devs should be ashamed of themselves. Worthless garbage and completely non-functional unless you shell out.

Love the new version! I upgraded to premium and already read a few articles I could not bypass any other way. Well worth it for a few bucks a month, thank you. :)

Since the update it became unusable, thank you for the previews years I'll now have to look elsewhere sadly :(

Ahmad Kamel

Useless update , can't even pay for the subscription

Alkesh C

Excellent works on both news outlets that I have used so far.

Very simple to use and it works for me consistently. Some other paywall extensions I tried were less than satisfactory. Great addition to my online tool set!
